Bob Gibson was an American professional baseball pitcher who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1959 to 1975. He was born on November 9, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska, and passed away on October 2, 2020. Gibson was known for his fierce competitiveness and exceptional skills, earning him a reputation as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. He was a two-time World Series champion, winning in 1964 and 1967, and was named the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both of those years. Gibson won the National League (NL) Cy Young Award in 1968, a season in which he recorded a remarkable 1.12 earned run average (ERA) and struck out 268 batters.
