Richard Matheson was an American author and screenwriter known for his influential works in the genres of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. Born on February 20, 1926, in Allendale, New Jersey, he gained prominence with his 1954 novel "I Am Legend," which tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by vampires. Matheson's writing often explores themes of isolation, fear, and the human condition. Apart from his novels, he wrote numerous short stories and screenplays, including the scripts for the classic "Twilight Zone" television series, as well as adaptations of his own work, like the film adaptation of "The Shrinking Man" and the teleplay for "Duel," directed by Steven Spielberg. Matheson's contribution to horror and speculative fiction has inspired many writers and filmmakers. He passed away on June 23, 2013.
