Abdala Bucaram Ortiz, commonly known as Abdala Bucaram, is an Ecuadorian politician and former president, born on February 6, 1952, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He served as the 30th president of Ecuador from 1996 until his presidency was terminated by Congress in 1997 due to charges of mental incapacity and corruption. Bucaram's presidency was marked by economic challenges, significant political unrest, and a populist style that polarized public opinion. He earned the nickname 'El Loco' (The Crazy One) for his eccentric behavior and controversial remarks. Before his presidency, he was a notable figure in Ecuador's political landscape, having served as the mayor of Guayaquil and as a member of the national legislature. After leaving office, he lived in exile, returning to Ecuador in 2005. Bucaram has remained an influential figure in Ecuadorian politics and has continued to be involved in political activities.
